Aloha kakou,

My friends, it was a cold morning in late September of 2011 when neighbor Rob Caveney and I first walked on the moon.  Okay, so it wasn’t really the moon.  It was like the moon, but only different.  It was Haleakala, Maui.

Yes, of course I kept a photo journal of our adventure.   It meant adding my 5 lb Nikon SLR camera and bag to my 40 lb pack.  The two weeks of walking around the home town of Kailua, Kaneohe, and the Aiea Loop Trail with full packs preparing for our hike certainly paid off.  Yes it hurt, we were tired, didn’t get much sleep, but we made it and had an incredible adventure.

You can view the highlights, or take a photo journey through our five days on the trail as we walked down the sliding sands, crossed the desert, over the a`a lava fields, camping at the idyllic, remote forest hideaway, hiking to the edge of a tropical rain forest and back. Enjoy.
