Coconut Joe
Singer/songwriter Bobby Rogers and the band Coconut Joe splashed on the scene in 1999 with the release of their first CD, Two Waters and followed it up 3 years later with Middle of the Ocean.
Featuring their trademark original music and lush harmonies, acoustic guitarist Bobby teams with Frank Kam on lead guitar/vocals, Peter Agustin on bass/vocals and Barbara Rogers on vocals. Scott Sato sits in on drums.
The songs are about life, politics, love, travels, unique and often satirical perspectives. The eclectic styles touch on many different genre including Folk, Rock, Jazz and Blues with a hint of the islands.
Bobby was born and raised on Oahu and grew up in the beach town of Kailua. He met his wife Barbara Ann in 1969 and they were married in 1971. Together they raised their daughter and son in Kailua who have each provided them with a grandson.
The Coconut Joe Band formed in 1996 and changed to just Coconut Joe a year later. For the next 13 years they released their two albums and performed throught out the Hawaiian Islands.
Today, Bobby and Barbara have moved out to the country shores of Oahu where their spend their retired life overlooking Laie Bay. While Barbara Ann reads, crochets and sews, you can often find Bobby hopping on a surfboard at his local break, or riding his recumbent trike out to the North Shore, or on his ealry monring beach walk to Malaekahana. He continues to write and reflect on life with another album and perhaps a novel on the horizon.
Frank Kam and his wife Diane retired to their home on Washington's Olympic Peninsula and Peter Agustin and Scott Sato still play music with their pals on Oahu.
Ex band mates: drummer Macy Campell is in New Jersey, bassist Bob Frost lives in Kailua, drummer Joey Holliday resides in New York, percussionist Rob Blok and drummer Herman Regal live on Oahu.
