1. A Summer's Wave
(There's a little secluded bay on the north shore of Oahu where I spent my teen years many moons ago enjoying the swells of the Pacific Ocean. This is for my son, Michael, who shares the passion. Surf on, dude!)
Riding on a Summer's wave.
Feel the wind, as it gently sprays.
Sun slips behind the face,
as I pull into her warm embrace.
Sliding on the ocean blue,
as the walls around me slowly spew.
Riding through the crystal foam,
through the passage to my home.
I see the passion in her eyes,
I feel the pain when she cries.
Riding to a virgin shore,
where the tide runs to, evermore.
O'er the traces in the sand,
as the sea seems to kiss the land.
I see the passion in her eyes,
I feel the pain when she cries.
Riding on a Summer's wave.
Feel the wind, as it gently sprays.
Sun slips behind the face,
as I pull into her warm embrace.

2. Two Pineapples in NY City
(A couple of years ago, the Mrs. and I took a little trip to the Big Apple. We were just a couple of lost tourists looking for a little art and culture. On our last night there, we stumbled upon a little club in the Village where the music just swallowed us up.)
We rode in to Penn Station on a West bound rail,
Took the 8:05 out of New London,
as the night slowly paled.
Swooped through the shadows
as we slid through the underground,
past the scrawls of the poets,
and the comfort in words that they found.
Hula girl danced on the dash,
as we rode through the town.
Bongos played Jamaican rhythms,
as the radio drowned.
"Hey taxi driver won't you
sing me your latest song."
He cuts so deep as we knifed,
through the zombie-eyed throng.
Two Pineapples in New York City,
Where the girls are randy and the boys are pretty.
Buildings scream as they scrape the sky,
the jungle swings while the night defies.
we've got no love and we got no pity,
We're just Two Pineapples in New York City.
We toured the sights of the city,
in a poor man's limousine.
With the windows rolled up,
Mr. Fuji, he captured the scene.
While the lady in green
waded in the incoming tide,
The birds took the park,
where the colors of life seem to hide.
Stepping on the stones,
at the corner of Bleecker and McDougal.
Bobby played the square,
while the juggler, he played the fool.
Then the night shrieked in pain,
as the day met it's bitter end.
We stared at the stage and said
"oh, so this is where it's happening."
I could live in NY City,
if you really wanted me to,
though I come from an island,
somewhere on the backside of the moon.
Where the breeze is invisible,
and laced with it's infectious perfume.
Where the palm trees sway,
and the flowers impatiently bloom.
Two Pineapples, in New York City....

3. Hawai'ian Rain
(For us who travel far from home, the lure of these islands is strong. I wrote this after a phone conversation with my daughter, who was living in San Diego, missing the warmth and beauty of home. It got me to think how we sometimes alienate ourselves from our roots, forgetting the comfort and strength that it gives us.)
Why do you run from me,
I've chased you all of my life,
I can't let you slip away,
now that the time is right.
Passion lies deep in my heart,
the thrill of your touch sends me sailing.
Wandering high above the clouds,
falling like rain onto the ground.
Hawaiian rain keeps on falling,
gently it washes my soul.
Sing me a song of the Islands,
rock me in your arms gentle shores.
Softly the sun breaks through the clouds,
flowing over the land,
I feel the warmth of it's rays,
now my eyes clearly see.
I've come home to rest my weary bones.
Traveled soles that wandered aimlessly,
dancing in the waves that wash the sand,
Pacific wind is blowing through my hair.
Hawaiian rain keeps on falling,
gently it washes my soul.
Sing me a song of the Islands,
rock me in your arms gentle shores.
frank..acoustic slide and acoustic solo)
4. Lucy Loves Me
(First love is simple and undiluted. Here's a song for my first girl friend that I wrote 20 something years after our first date.)
Lucy Loves me this I know,
keeps my heart all aglow.
It's all right and it's okay,
Lucy loves me every day.
Lucy lies there, Lucy dreams,
long hair flowing like a stream.
Moments slowly drift away,
passion flows as two lips play.
Shades the sun and calms the rain
holds my hand to ease the pain.
Running wild with the wind,
Opens doors and calls me in.
Solo
Shades the sun and calms the rain
holds my hand to ease the pain.
Running wild with the wind,
Opens doors and calls me in.
Lucy loves me this I know,
for her eyes do tell me so.
It's all right and it's okay,
Lucy loves me every day.

5. Two Of Us
(Barbara and I had just come out of a Barbra Strieisand movie which I just didn't get. She loved it, I was clueless. Forget Venus and Mars. Women are from Pluto and Men are from Uranus. The next day this song was written. Here's a song for lovers)
Two of us, so apart,
different views from the heart.
you feel while I try to understand.
you dream while I wonder why.
When the mind, meets the heart,
two lost souls in the dark,
I touch while you hold me in your arms.
We dance while thoughts drift away.
And two of us, falling in love,
falling as two hearts, falling as one.
When the heart, meets the mind,
when two souls intertwine,
words fail, when I try to tell you how I feel,
trying to show you my love.
And two of us, falling in love,
falling as two hearts, falling as one.
Two of us, through the years,
beyond the pain and all those tears
sharing the love that we hold so tenderly.
Two hearts that grow into one.
Two of Us, so in love Two of Us, so in love.

6. Wild Women
("He drove into town with the top rolled down late one evening. He was lonely, looking for love. Out from the shadows stepped a tall, leggy woman. You could just tell she liked it kind of wild." For an ex-band mate and his sweet coupe deluxe.)
Riding on the wrong side,
taking such a deep slide,
Wild Women always on the run.
Chasing down the highway,
easing through the byway,
looking for a girl to take me home.
Answers to the questions,
building all the tension,
positively wiped out, I'm alone.
Putting on your make up,
giving me the shake up,
colors on your face they never lie.
Baby, you drive me wild,
With your greased back hair
and your high fashion style.
you don't want me around,
you just want to ride all over town.
Driving on a one way,
finding out the wrong way,
spending time up a wrong avenue.
Running out of gasoline,
rolling into misery,
"Fill it up, I need a little ride."
Baby, you drive me wild,
With your greased back hair
and your high fashion style.
you don't want me around,
you just want to ride all over town.
Riding on the wrong side,
taking such a deep slide,
Wild Women always on the run.
Baby, you drive me wild,
With your greased back hair
and your high fashion style.
you don't want me around,
you just want to ride all over town.

7. Empty Halls
(I read somewhere about a local musician who passed away at what I thought was a young age. He spent his life gigging, chasing his musical dream. I guess we all chase our dreams though not all of us have time to achieve them. Makes me think we should really enjoy the chase.)
At fifty-four, he played no more,
he just sang songs, that creaked the floor.
The dust sets in, on that old guitar,
a thousand voices, in a hundred whiskey bars.
He looked at life through an amber glass,
his vision blurred, as the days did pass.
A writer of words, a sculptor of songs,
a painter of pain, his passion was strong.
Where are the stars, that light candles in the dark.
Where are the flowers, that gather in the park.
and all the echoes, from all the empty halls.
and all the lonely people, who take their final bow.
Another day, yes, another dime,
Another song that cuts through time.
a picture's taken, a photograph,
a stolen moment, an autograph.
And the old man has died,
his summers they're all gone.
Fifty-three hard winters,
that left a trace upon.
Where are the stars, that light candles in the dark.
Where are the flowers, that gather in the park.
and all the echoes, from all the empty halls.
and all the lonely people, who take their final bow.
At fifty-four, he played no more,
he just sang songs, that creaked the floor.
The dust sets in, on that old guitar,
a thousand voices, in a hundred whiskey bars.

8. Humpback Whale
(Unconsciously conscience with a groove. This one was sitting in my head for several years. I finished it after a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. I think being born and raised in these beautiful islands has helped me be a little more environmentally aware. What out for Frank and Al Gaylor as they cooked during their solos)
Humpback Whale, listen to the Humpback wail.
Humpback Whale, listen to the Humpback wail.
As he sounds, the cannon roars
Harpoon Harry has another score.
Do the Monk Seal, do the Monk Seal squeal,
Do the Monk Seal, do the Monk Seal squeal,
Let them live, in the seas,
shifting tides are a reality.
And I live in the ocean,
where the tides roll on by.
in the deep blue waters,
far from human eyes
I was swimming with the dolphins,
in Kealakekua Bay.
I was swimming with the dolphins,
Kealakekua Bay.
They swam right up and said to me
Hey, human dude, let them fishies be free.
Humpback Whale, listen to the Humpback wail.
Humpback Whale, listen to the Humpback wail.

9. Two Waters
(This is a song about my home town of Kailua (Two Waters), O'ahu. Over fifteen hundred years ago, it's believed that first settlers from the Marquesas Islands landed on it's sandy shores. It's about their aloha spirit that has endured over the years. Inspired by W. Thomas Hall and his book "The History of Kailua, Hawaii")
This is the story about the first people of Two Waters,
Who sailed from their barren home, in search for a better land.
They came to rest on a far away island,
Where two mountain streams gently flowed into the ocean.
This is the story of a peaceful, loving people,
who lived in harmony with the land and the sea.
It's about the love that was deep in their hearts,
a spirit that would live on for centuries.
This is the story of how warriors from another island,
came and stepped on their peace and harmony.
Though many more will come to this place called Two Waters,
It's the spirit of the first ones that lives in our memory.
I am a wave, that washes on these sandy shores,
where the two waters run, where the heart... soars.

10. Thomas Wyles
(In November of 1965, my brother Tommy parked his car at the top of the Pali lookout which rests high on the sharp and jagged Ko`olau cliffs over looking the windward side of Oahu. We haven't see him since that day; another lost soul wandering away. In this song, I want to take you into the lush jungle that makes up the the slopes of the Ko`olaus. The misty fog of the Hawai1ian rain forest shimmers in the afternoon light. I can barely see the sillouhette off in the distance.
Will I ever see you again,
will you be there at the end of my journey,
will you be there at the end.
Will I have time to explain,
all the things that were lost, all the pain.
Will we ever be one, will we ever be one.
Oh brother, where do you roam,
will you find peace all alone.
And how is it we're so apart,
distance leaves scars on the heart,
distance leaves scars on the heart.
I lost you when the battle began,
oh you took to the woods as you ran.
Leaving behind a wounded past.
The tears are the fears that will last,
the tears are the fears that will last.
Oh brother, where do you roam,
will you find peace all alone.
And how is it we're so apart,
distance leaves scars on the heart,
distance leaves scars on the heart.
Will I ever see you again,
will you be there at the end,
will you be there at the end.

11. Paradise Hotel
(It's a song about the battle between faith and life. Born in Wailuku, Maui in 1921, she was raised with the heavy guiding hand of God. Both her parents were missionaries, diligently spreading the word throughout the Hawai'ian Islands. When it was her turn to face life's obstacles, she abandoned the faith she was raised with and took refuge elsewhere.)
The Army sent her parents to the Paradise Hotel,
with words of Godly matters in Bibles they did sell.
They had a reason to be there there was goodness on their side,
They lived the lives of patriots freeing souls that tend to hide.
Their purpose was salvation, some say they had the touch,
they touch the lives of natives who said "no thank you very much."
but that's the way it is with preaching the stories of the pew,
for every soul you seem to save, yeah, you seem to lose a few.
Chorus
She said, "Take me down to the river and let my burdens drown
Take me down to the river and let my burdens drown.
you can't hurt me no more ever since you let me down."
She's a private in the Army at the Paradise Hotel.
She's a trooper in the trenches at the gates of heathen hell.
Her mission, plain and simple, her orders quite contrite.
Objectives seen so clearly, soul searching in the night.
But mysteriously she runs, she's taken to the street.
A woman of confusion, illusions in the heat.
Tropical depressions are all a state of mind,
like the men who left her lonely, like the one she's left behind.
Chorus
A soldier in the army has fallen to her knees,
with wounds self inflicted she lives with the disease.
Yet the war with life continues for those who choose to fight,
the battle ever rages with victims in the night.
Chorus
frank..bass
12. All Pau (Finished; End)
( This is a tribute to my upbringing in the Hawai'ian Islands and the woman who was responsible. Dedicated to my mom, affectionately know as Aunty Pan to the many people she touched during her life.)
Rest your head upon your pillow,
lay your burdens by your side,
don't think twice about tomorrow,
sleep deep through the night.
Close your eyes and sleep so gently,
let your thoughts softly fall.
And the sun is fading slowly,
and the day is all pau.
Rest your head cause.. it's all pau
Close your eyes now... it's all pau
Go to sleep darling... it's all pau
E hele moe moe.... it's, it's all pau
(Come, let's go to sleep, it [the day] is finished)
Through the night your dreams will take you,
past the day's longing call.
Don't you let the morning wake you,
till the night is all pau.
Rest your head cause.. it's all pau
Close your eyes now... it's all pau
Go to sleep darling... it's all pau
E hele moe moe.... it's, it's all pau
bob ....slack key guitar
