Andrew Molera State Park Hike, Big Sur, California: We needed a Pacific ocean fix so we headed 5 miles north to Andrew Molera State Park at the begining of Big Sur for a 2 mile RT hike to an overlook with great ocean views. There was one caveot to this hike. The entire park was inundated with Poison Oak. Out of control, the forest rangers just trimmed them into hedges and you walked down coridors of a wide trail with our limbs appropriately coverd. Matter of fact, the plant is everywhere in Big Sur. During our stay, no shorts or short sleeves for Annie Poison Oakly and I. We learned pretty fast, besides, it was too cold for us thin blooded Hawaiians.
We were rewarded with sand, waves, wet suited surfers, gulls and gorgeous views popping out at us as we hiked and reached the Headlands Trail vantage point. It was a great little hike. And, so far, no itching.
