Mirror Lake Bike and Hike, Yosemite National Park, California: I will never be forgiven for this one. It was suppose to be a one mile bike ride up to Mirror Lake. We rode the bike the one mile, cool. We wandererd around the lake, way cool. Let's see if can get to the other side of the lake. yikes!. We hiked 4.5 miles loop around the lake to get to the other side. Mrs. Joe was not a happy camper. It was a gorgeous hike, but a little more that Grandma had planned on.
Fortunately we ran in to another couple who had done the same thing. He was a retired Intel exec, which I learned afterwords, and she worked while putting him through college, then stayed home and raised the kids. If I'd know the Intel part, I would have been tempted to jump all over that. He was such a nice mellow guy, I probably wouldn't have. The guys hiked together and the women folk did the same making the trek much easier. George, after much prying from me, had spend much of his youth and adult life in the valley. He was sure there was bridge crossing somewhere, but we found out later it had been washed out and it's replacement much further down the stream. He was a new RV owner and I shared my tips of the road.
All in all, it was great hike and we met some great, like minded folks.
