RogersFall 2015
Oregon Coast Bike Route, Newport, OR: They say that the Oregon Coast Bike Trail runs up and down the entire coast of Oregon. It also has another name, and it's Hwy 101. There are few spots along the coast where the bike trail runs separate and parallel to the 101. Such a place was here just outside the town of Newport by our campsite. Of course I wanted to ride it. It would be a 500 ft climb to the highest point, down 400 to the end and then back up 400 feet. It was only a 10 mile round trip but the climb was tenacious and the views were stunning. First stop was Devils Punchbowl view point where I could overlook Beverly Beach, where we walked the previous evening and the Devil's Punchbowl (looked more like a rice bowl). My ride then climbed up to Otter Crest for the grand view at 500 ft. It was a fun ride down to Rocky Creek Bridge and viewpoint and then it was time to turn around and make my way back up the hill. Worth it, lots of snaps, lots of burned calories. I deserved the ice cream I had tonight.
